Lactic Acid 40% is a syrupy, colourless to slightly yellowish liquid with an acidic taste and a faint characteristic odour. A product of anaerobic carbohydrate breakdown. When given orally, a 2–3% aqueous solution has antiseptic, antifermentative and spasmolytic properties and improves chyme evacuation through the digestive tract. For external use: 1–2% — disinfecting; 10% — keratolytic; 30–40% — cauterizing.
